The Bush Administration is hastily finalizing a number of “midnight rules” before they leave
office, and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is on the list. Just like UIGEA
was snuck into legislation in the dark of night in 2006, anti-poker extremists are again trying an
11th hour sneak job.

She was a stranger, and she kissed me. Just for being an American. It happened on the bus on my way
to work Wednesday morning, a few hours after compatriots clamoring for change swept Barack Obama to
his historic victory. I was on the phone, and the 20-something Austrian woman seated in front of me
overheard me speaking English.

From reporter w/ best access to McCain: "John McCain, the politician, seemed to be on the verge of
outflanking John McCain, the man.... But for me, he lost the election when he picked Palin, because
he lost the last vestige of his former self."

"This election is not about major policies. It's about hope.Let me make it clear: I'm pretty
conservative. I grew up in the suburbs. I voted for George H.W. Bush twice, and his son once. I was
disappointed when Bill Clinton won, and disappointed he couldn't run again. "

The New Republic published an explosive story Saturday evening detailing how John McCain, in all
likelihood, leaked information to investigators of the Keating Five scandal that was designed to
help his image at the expense of the other four Senators involved.

The Republican Party is dead. Yes, I'm saying this before the election. Even if McCain wins, which
could happen if Obama supporters stay home thinking the election is in the bag, the GOP still has
lost its way along with a substantial number of members. While high-profile Republicans like Susan
Eisenhower and Frank Schaeffer have made the headlines

Alaska get's over half its budget from oil company taxes, and every citizen gets thousands of
dollars free from the state government every year for doing absolutely nothing. I guess that means
the "red" state of Alaska is red because it's a Marxist's paradise, not because it's a model of
fiscal conservatism.

It remains to be seen if the Republican party can recover from its long and seedy affair with the
extreme right, but there is no doubt that many socially moderate, fiscally conservative Republicans
are waiting for a leadership that is driven more by Goldwater ethics than by the bogeyman of a
separatist, neo-con God.
