alve has now published its first set of stats detailing which software is installed on the computers
of those using its Steam client. While Flash, Acrobat and Firefox dominate the listings, BitTorrent
clients also make a significant appearance. uTorrent is installed on almost as many systems as
iTunes!

Nicky Haik was stuck at home sick for a week when he was 13. Out of boredom, he started playing WoW.
Over the next five years, he spent somewhere between 175 and 200 solid days (4,000+ hours), playing
the game. At 18 he finally decided it was time to quit, and did so earlier this month in

Playdom, a startup who has competed with Zynga in the online social gaming market, is being acquired
by The Walt Disney Co. The acquisition will let Disney create new games based on its vault of
characters from "Toy Story" to the comic book superheroes from Marvel. Will social games become a
new promotional vehicle for blockbuster films?

A new feature allowing all Facebook users to instantly vote and comment on their favorite puzzle
types. Pic-a-Pix is my favorite type of puzzle, and now I can easily share my thoughts or recommend
it to my Facebook friends.

In many ways, reviewing FrontierVille presents the same challenge to a video games critic as
reviewing a massively multiplayer online game: it's an ever-changing game that you can't win where
most of the gameplay experience rests on interactions with other players. Whereas MMOs are at least
seen as games worthy of the reviews section...

It's one thing to say "hey, world, I could make a kick ass video game" and quite another to actually
go and make the thing. The web-based Stencyl is one of many companies who attempts to make that
easier for the amateur developer, and the company recently told us about a slew of improvements
coming to Stencyl, including support for Flash.
